hey, this is hruch. Now i dont come on too oftern now, maybe just to check up on sutff. I'll be the first to say that cross country isn't my sport, don't know why. I struggled last year... alot. Though that doesn't mean that i'll be the same for this year. Last year before XC, i had sprained my foot, and yet i was determined to run, the foot never healed, and i had worsened my IT Band and it was a mess, hence forth me not running at states and falling back in the counties. Anyway, point is, i'd like to assure you that i'm in a new mindset now, one thats a little more healthier and focused. Summer is all about xc for me, that and decathlon. And if you dont think i can do something, it only makes me stronger cause thats the stuff i think about during a race, proving people wrong. I ask you not to count me out in the long run cause liberty has lost two seniors and i know that its my responsibility/commonsense to step it up even more to help out the team.

nah way man, no insult incurred. it's cool to know that it's not going to be easy to excel because the last thing i want happening is me to start slacking off. XC will be fun, and i'm sure we'll all suprise ourselves, so lets get ready.

CarrollCountyRun
you completely left out Pat D. from liberty. He beat me this year in xc but i wont let that happen next year. im going to go out on a limp with my predictions but here goes:
1 . i think up for grabs( honestly) between leathers, welsh, and dulaney 2. whoever isnt first 3. whoever isnt first or second 4. cross 5.liberatore 6. Sisler 7.Dougherty 8. Naper 9. pherman ( if he does it) 10. Hruch ( i think this boy may do even better than 10th)
i have no idea how it really will turn out but it looks like the county title will be between liberty and fsk as of now. leathers, welsh, white, etc. fearns if he actually does go back to nc could be a loss. liberty brings back cross, liberatore, dougherty, hruch, etc. i think right now the liberty pack looks to be a tad better.

pat will be back for xc... and he'll be fine... he just lost it during indoor, i think he was a little burnt out mentally from summer and xc... One thing to sisler and carrollcountyrun(whats your name?), eric liberatore was hurt all of last year and still had a good ending in xc, he has motivation this year too, he should be up there with welsh and leathers, also he was fourth in the county his freshman year...

oh i know, i remember last...last year. he's a great runner of all distances. he came back at counties this year and beat me with next to no base....im guessing. im not counting him out, but from what i've "seen" i see what i've said. if liberatore did track it'd help me make a better judgement.

Eric did run track. He took 4th in the state in both the 1600 and 800. Had the fastest 1600 in the county and 2nd fastest 800 (only to nick) during indoors. And his indoor times, while they are suppose to be slower, are comparable to times of those during the outdoor season. (Consider that he also led off with a 2:01 at the state meet in the 4x8, with nobody within 3 seconds of him as he did it)
The county has gotten a lot stronger, but even with the little amount of training last year, Eric in his xc carear has only lost a handful of times to runners in the county next year. He has lost to Cross once, Dougherty once, Dulaney once and Welsh twice. He has yet to lose to Leathers (this one is interesting because they both came in as freshman the same year). I discluded the SC invite last year, because he really wasn't ready to run - still significantly back due to his ankle.
But as far as winning experience, we have a number of athletes in the county that have won championships (excluding relays and field events):
Arthur Leathers - MVAL XC Jared Welsh - County XC, County Indoor 1600, County Indoor 3200 Andrew Cross - MVAL Indoor 3200, MVAL Outdoor 3200 Eric Liberatore - MVAL Indoor 1600 Nick Hruch - MVAL Indoor 800, County Indoor 800, County Outdoor 800, Regional Outdoor 800
You have to give a little bit of an edge to the seniors, cause this is it for them and they will want it just a little more (Dulaney, Welsh, Sisler, Hruch), but there is definitely some sophomores and juniors that will make it awful tough (Leathers, Liberatore, Cross, Dougherty)

Coach or anyone else. How do you see the girls county XC playing out?? Individually and team.

It is a lot harder to predict girls then guys. while Freshman guys can have an impact, it really just doesn't happen very often. The county was lucky to see 3 freshman in the last 2 years have such a huge impact on their teams. Usually it is tough for a freshman to even make varsity. This is not the case for girls. There was 6 freshman girls in the top 18 alone last year (compared to one freshman guy in the top 27).
Concerning last year, every team lost somebody from their top 6 to graduation. Winters Mill graduated the most, graduating 3 of their top 6. Century only graduated their number 4, and NC only graduated their #5 and 6. NC also had a JV girl that would have placed in the top 30 in the varsity race.
Westminster is always deep, and even when they graduate individuals, they seem to be able to fill it with no problem. I would imagine at this point (looking at last year) Westminster has the strongest case as the favorites. North Carroll's distance improved greatly in outdoor track, and that will carry over into cross country. They MIGHT be the next best challenger given those facts. Century had two freshman in their top 3 and 3 in their top 5. The experience of running varsity last year may help them this year. Some will argue of sophomore slumps, but I don't believe in that stuff, I think that is just coaching.
I believe my girls have potential too but of course I know a lot more about my girls then most others would. but during indoor track Stacy Smith was the top xc bound 800 runner at counties, Lisa Robbins the top xc bound 1600 runner at counties and Liz Pickett the top xc bound 3200 runner at counties. And we had some depth on the girls side, and a good number of freshman coming in so who knows what may happen.
But the bottomline, I really think the school that gets the best freshman class next year could very well be the team to beat (or recruits a couple soccer players). Last year that was Westminster (3 freshman in the top 18 at counties) and they won the county title by 21 points. I think several teams (maybe even 5 of the county teams) with what is coming back from last year have the base of a championship team, and that's what gives an even greater impact of what a good freshman class can have on any team in the county.
Anybody know who the studs were for girls at the county playday this past year?

Individually...its Katie Hursey again.
For the team, I think it will be a three way race between NC, Century, and Westminster.
NC has Katie at the top, and then plenty of fast girls behind her. Westminster has always had a very good pack of girls. Century only graduates one girl (Hillary Lamdin), so they will most likely be even stronger.
It will be an exciting season, not that I'll be around to see it though.

Oh, and individually, if there was a middle schooler that was ready to beat Katie Hursey I would think we might have heard rumor of her already. So I'm thinking Katie is still the heavy favorite. I think the "pack" may keep it a little closer, but she is still just in a league of her own as of right now.

Haser, I think you still need to include at least my team in that group. Liberty girls did win the regional title last year, and the girls coming back have improved. We do graduate pur #3 and #5, but STacey Smith wasn't in our top 5 last year, and she placed 5th in the state in indoors in the 1600. Definitely a lot of teams that have a shot. Freshman, recruting and summer running will be a huge factor.
