Hey everyone, bein an alum of FSK and a big follower of the team now, I wanted to hear others opinions about the current team. Could they be considered the number 1 county team ever? I know Liberty has had a recent dynasty in the past three years, and I know Westminster and South Carroll used to be really good too in the 90s. If some of the older runners (no offense) could put their imput on these older teams and how they compare to the team Key has now I would appreciate it. I don't know a lot about Carroll's past so any imput would be great, thanks.

Not yet. Certainly no disrespect to FSK, but you can't even consider them the best until they at least win the state title. We'll see in the next few weeks.

It's hard to say and stuff because we all didnt run against each other... westminster back in the day was really good, sc had the big names, and our liberty team was pack running team that worked well with each other... FSK has run really well so far this year, 2 more weeks... good luck to all at regionals and states!

calling this fsk's cross country team the best county team ever would be a flat out joke. back in the 90's westminster had a team whos fifth man would have destroyed fsk's first man this year. westminster won 4A states 4 years in a row. alumni from those years now have recently participated in marathons and gotten time in the 2:24's. no offense to the rest of the county but i dont think fsk's team this year would compare to any of westminsters top 10 teams in its history. its just a given fact that the county has gotten weaker since those years.
to call fsk the best team ever would be a huge smack in the face to people like steve cartalia, jessie oconnell, jason santucci, kevin pool, all of whom would metaphorically skeet in fsk's face.

Why don't we just wait until states then take FSK's times and score them with five or so other teams that are considered great teams from the past? That will end all debate...for the most part

If you look at the results from the state meet there 5th man did not beat fsks number one and westminster frist would only be beating fsks from this year by a little bit

chill sisler i just wanted to hear other peoples opinions, not complete bashings on other teams. I didn't know how good westminster's team was in the past, and I don't think what runner's are running now (refering to the 2:24 marathons) should be considered when you are looking at a team in the past; we wanna know what they were like then not now (don't get me wrong, the 2:24 marathon that kevin pool ran at chicago is beast as anything but its just irrelevant to the topic here). I definitely think westminster had a beast team, appreciate your imput but just chill a little on the dissing. Also, I'm pretty sure fsk's team now could compare to at least most of westminster's top 10 teams in its history, but again thats just my opinion.

I've always found it problematic to compare teams from different years. Sure times can be an indicator, but who's to say you wouldn't run differently or be motivated differently with other people in your race? For instance as a part of 2 of LHS' state title teams it would be hard for me to flat out say Key's team this year was better than my senior year team. We faced different competition, so who's to say we couldn't have run faster. I know we were strictly motivated on winning meets, not times. Also weather plays a factor on times as well so you can't simply look at state times because each team faced different weather that they had to deal with. The only way you can definitively tell what team is better would be to actually put them side by side and race. This is to take nothing away from this years Key team. They were incredible and their county finish was impressive. Having said all that, those westminster teams of the past and SC's team when I was in middle school would probably have trounced my liberty teams and this years key team.

Great idea, lets line you up. Bryan get your racing flats. But frankly, most of you guys dont' run anymore, so I think they're going to beat ya.
By the way, I am pretty confident neither the SC nor Westminster teams would have trounced us. Most specifically the SC teams, I think it would have been a pretty good race. There was some Westminster teams in the past that were pretty awesome.

Yeah I def agree, I think it would be awesome if we could somehow race against those teams of the past but that would require a time machine...not gonna happen lol. Which makes me think, EA Sports needs to make an XC Street or something like that. A video game with all of the past greats and present...it prob sounds better than it actually would be but I would buy it haha

Compare the times for yourself. It might be smart to note that the course was slightly shorter when the Westminster team's times were run (1999).
FSK's team was ridiculously awesome this year, and they'll have a bragging rite in this county that westminster never had-a perfect score at the county meet. Based on those times and what I know, I'd say Westminster's team was a little better.
And by the way one last thing, in 1998(I believe) Westminster was ranked #25 in the NATION. I do not recall FSK being ranked nationally. That could just be due to more competition these days...but in any case, I'll let you decide.
