Just something that might be interesting - here is the head-to-head records (records vs teams in 2a West) for this region. If a team is complete, I did not give other teams a win over them, only because it was easier to figure out without doing that. This is merely for entertainment, not an official stat. Boys 1 | FSK | 16-0 | 2 | Middletown | 12-3 | 3 | Winters Mill | 10-6 | 4 | Liberty | 7-7 | 5 | Century | 6-7 | 6 | Walkersville | 5-8 | 7 | North Hagerstown | 3-11 | 8 | Northwood | 0-0 | 9 | Clarksburg | 0-3 | 10 | Rockville | 0-5 | 11 | South Hagerstown | 0-9 |
Girls 1 | Century | 11-0 | 2 | Middletown | 9-2 | 3 | Winters Mill | 6-5 | 4 | Liberty | 5-7 | 5 | Walkersville | 2-4 | 6 | Rockville | 0-0 | 7 | Clarksburg | 0-3 | 8 | North Hagerstown | 0-9 | | FSK | Incomplete | | Northwood | Incomplete | | South Hagerstown | Incomplete |
*Northwood has yet to compete against any 2a West teams **Rockville girls have competed in meets with a complete team, but have not had a complete team when competing against 2a West teams

Wow, that's really interesting. It looks like a good gauge as to how the Regional meet may go as well.

With 7 of the 11 teams at the Lion's Den, I thought it might be interesting to pull out all the 2a West teams out of the results. The only teams missing would be Middletown, South Hagerstown and Clarksburg. Boys Notes - Middletown boys should be around Winters Mill right now at 2nd or 3rd in the region. South Hagerstown has yet to beat any region teams, having lost 11 times. Clarksburg could be the most interesting. They have raced 3 teams and lost all 3 times, but they did win their division in Montgomery County. I don't think they will be a factor when it comes down to who qualifies for states though. Jesse Henderson of FSK is the second best #5 runner in the region at this meet finishing only one place behind the top #5 runner. Century had the best #5 and #6 runner in the region at the meet. Girls Notes - The one girl that did not run was Century's #4 runner. Middletown girls have been a solid 2nd all year. South Hagerstown is incomplete and won't effect the scores (although, I read in the paper for Hagerstown that it is their hope that they will for the first time in years have a complete team at one meet this year, so apparently they have 5 girls on their roster so maybe 5 girls will be put in for regionals giving them a complete team) Rockville was incomplete at Lion's Den (and have been at a number of meets this year) but they have run with a complete team before. Clarksburg could be the most interesting team. They won their division in Montgomery County, but looking at results, they haven't seem to have run all their top girls at a meet with any 2a West team. They certainly might be a team that could threaten to qualify for states, or maybe they won't, they are probably the team that is hardest to read at this point. Once again I pulled out all the 2a West Results from the combined results. 8 of the 11 teams were here (only Northwood, Clarksburg and Rockville were not, and their Montgomery County champs are tomorrow). Only Clarksburg really has much of a shot of making any noise in the team standings (maybe - they may not either) and it will all depend on how many teams submit full rosters. I would think 6 boys team will qualify, and either 4 or 5 girls teams (hopefully 5 - FSK is definitely incomplete, Rockville, South Hagerstown and Northwood have been incomplete for most or all of the season, but they have 5 or more on their team, so hopefully they submit all for their regional roster). Note: as long as they submit a team of 5 to the regional director, they count as a complete team even if 5 don't line up on the day of regionals. For these times, it is important to note that conditions were a lot worse for the Piedmont race then the Blue Ridge race, and the Piedmont boys, a few of the runners made a wrong turn, and had to backtrack adding significant time to thier races. From what I understand from Coach S. Boyer, 6 boys and 5 girls teams will advance to States.

You really can't do a real comparison, but I compared the times from Lion's Den and the Montgomery County Championships to try to get an idea of where Clarksburg is. Both Northwood and Rockville ran at both meets, and while neither team should be much of a factor at regionals (only one male runner from each school will do any damage), it does help to get an idea of how Clarksburg might do. Girls: My the looks of it, Even though the Clarksburg should be the 6th best team going in, I don't think they will be able to beat healthy teams of Century, Middletown, Winters Mill, Liberty and North Hagerstown, so those teams should feel pretty good about their chances for states. Boys: The boys are more interesting. I did the best I could to make a prediction at what times the Clarksburg boys may have run on the Liberty course based on how they did against both Rockville and Northwood. this is what I came up with: Top 5 Clarksburg Boys possible times on Liberty Course: Ramon Munoz 17:41 Michael Leaman 18:40 Bentsi Johnson 19:07 Russ Daley 19:27 Phillip Cruz 19:49 If I took these times and added them to the 2a West times I pulled from MVALs, this is what I would get (again, only Orndorff from Rockville and Reumante from Northwood should really effect the scoring at all, and lets assume they effect the teams in the same way): 1 | FSK | 42 | 2 | Winters Mill | 69 | 3 | Century | 88 | 4 | Middletown | 92 | 5 | Walkersville | 92 | 6 | Clarksburg | 149 | 7 | Liberty | 156 | 8 | N Hagerstown | 236 | 9 | S Hagerstown | 251 |
Eric Liberatore for Liberty did not finish at MVALs, and since by these numbers (obviously don’t put too much stock into it, it is just to get an idea of how good maybe Clarksburg is), it puts Liberty in 7th, I wanted to try and put Eric in to see how it changes things. There is no telling how fast Eric may run, but let’s say he finished 4th at Regionals, which is possible (he finished 3rd two years ago on the same course with 2 weeks of training), but he could obviously run worse too, or not even run. But if he were to finish 4th, this is how the team scores would change: 1 | FSK | 44 | 2 | Winters Mill | 74 | 3 | Century | 93 | 4 | Middletown | 97 | 5 | Walkersville | 97 | 6 | Liberty | 123 | 7 | Clarksburg | 154 | 8 | N Hagerstown | 241 | 9 | S Hagerstown | 256 |
So the boys race could be more interesting then the girls. In both cases I would think that Clarksburg going in on paper it would put Clarksburg on the outside looking in on qualifying for states. With 6 boys teams qualifying, I think 7 teams have a shot, with FSK, Winters Mill, Century, Middletown, Walkersville and Liberty looking like they have the best shot. Makes it a little more interesting at least. But in any case, it looks like Carroll County has a shot of qualifying 7 out of 7 possible teams for states in this region (Obviously FSK girls can’t qualify, not a complete team and so they don’t count), and I am certain that SC will qualify both of their teams. Maybe NC and Westminster can make it a perfect County in qualifying!

You never know with Clarksburg. We (Walkersville boys) beat them pretty handily at Oatlands, but their #2 guy (Leaman) didn't run good. And it seems like their #3 runner (Natang, or something like that) is streaky. If they can get those guys to run good, they may make a little noise in the team standings. But it seems like they drop off alot after those first three guys... I just wish we ran against them in a couple earlier meets so I can get a better gauge on them.
