All the county teams shoul be familiar with the course now, having run there last week, so hopefully they can use this to their advantage.
Good Luck everone.

For 5 of the 7 county schools that won't be an advantage at all - since 5 of the 7 are in the Blue Ridge Conference with no other schools.

Hopefully MVAL officials will take a hard look at the Piedmont races and realize how uncompetitive they've made the MVAL with the new four divisions. While none of the eight races are not much more than a big Quad meet, the Piedmont is the biggest joke when you look at its five schools. One, South Hagerstown, couldn't field a boys or girls team last week; Frederick's boys varsity would have been beaten by Middletown's JV last week; and N Hagerstown boys barely beat Frederick last week.
And the girls race looks to be worse than the boys.
What a quality "championship" meet. Jeez.
Bring back the CMC. Please.

I agree that the Piedmont is the weakest conference, but if my team (Walkersville boys) does really well, I'm not going to let that fact dampen their spirits. It's already been a loooong season for us and they deserve a little taste of success. And I agree that they are not much more than an oversized quad-meet. But overall, I'd prefer that they just left the conferences alone, and just add the newly-constructed high schools that are slated to open up over the next couple years into the pre-existing conferences.

The Blue Ridge is 5 Carroll County Schools and no other teams. I don't see the point in that. They have the county championship next week, which only adds 2 teams. Personally I like to see them have each county represented in each conference. Isn't that the point of the MVAL, to bring competition between the counties? I had posted this next part a long while back, and I am reposting it since it might be relevant. I didn't change anything since I posted this: I'm not particularly fond of these new alignments, so a question to see if anybody has any ideas: If you could change the alignments, how might you change them? I am going to make them under the assumption that they open a new school called Manchester Valley High School, giving Carroll County 8 schools. I will also devide it into 4 divisions just cause that sounds fun. This is how I might do it, but I'm not a football coach, or soccer coach, I'm a track & xc coach, and this might not be fun for other sports, I don't know. Conf 1 | Conf 2 | Conf 3 | Conf 4 | SC | Winters Mill | FSK | NC | Manchester Valley | Liberty | Century | Westminster | Brunswick | Frederick | Middletown | TJ | Catoctin | Walkersville | Tuscarora | Urbana | Williamsport | Clear Spring | South Hagerstown | Linganore | Boonsboro | Smithsburg | | North Hagerstown |
Why did I do this? Cause then it mixes it up. Each school gets to see a couple teams from the other county teams. It's not like a county championship AND the smallest school in a county doesn't compete against the biggest school from another county. The two smallest schools in each county are in the smallest Conference. Nothing will ever be perfect, but I would have fun with that one.

I like those proposed line-ups. Plus you can throw in Oakdale High (the new high school in Frederick County in a couple years) into the third conference.

a major problem with the MVAL is logistics, especially if a Carroll County school has to compete all year against schools in western Washington County. A sports event on a school night (eg, basketball) would likely result in kids getting home very late. Plus the fuel and the bus drivers' additional time would make it more expensive. It actually may be quicker for Manchester Valley to drive to Annapolis then to Williamsport.
Not too much a problem for Frederick schools, as those in the East were put in divisions with Carroll County schools, those in the West (Brunswick, M-Town, Catoctin) could readily be put in with Washington County schools. This is why the old MVAL and CMC worked, only FSK was in the MVAL with the smaller FredCo schools and Washington County, with the rest in the CMC with the larger FredCo schools.
I believe returning to three divisions would still accomplish the most goals. If the S Carroll dilemna was really the only issue, it could have been worked out by leaving them in Piedmont. Afterall, N Hagerstown has been 2A recently and still left in Antietam. The only other change would have been to switch Century to Piedmont and Frederick to Chesapeake. Every division would continue to have inter-county rivalries with schools about the same size. But it's too easy, so it'll never happen.
