Now that is a good list.
Is this HOF for performances while in high school, or overall performances? Cause I can see one name on there that I wouldn't include if you went solely on performances in high school. For instance, Hruch is a much faster 400 runner then Scott Koleszar was. Hruch has split 50 flat but never had a race where he could have gone faster. Koleszar never split sub 52 in high school.
Hopefully Hruch can make the distance medley next year with his performances. (by the way, saw a video of the race from states, I clocked Nick from line to line and had him at 1:53.9 in that 4x8 - he got the baton well before the line)

Coach SB- Todd Ashley has to be included on that 800 men's list and note that Tink Hill (FSK) also ran under 1:58.

Ok, this could go in the carroll county indoor track thread, but I decided how the Hall of Fame will work. Let's say I win the lottery next year, and have it built and ready to go by the 2008-9 indoor track season. Then each year a panel (which I will explain in a minute) will vote to enter 2 guys and 2 girls into the hall of fame. The first few years there will be a lot of great candidates, but only 2 guys and 2 girls can be selected.
The panel will be made up of these people: Two coaches from each high school (preferrably a girls and a boys indoor track coach, but in some cases a school has the same coach as both). That would be 16 (counting the new high school coming). Coach Renner from McDaniel would be on the panel, Pat Stoetzer from the Carroll County times and Kevin Spradlin from the Advocate. That's a total of 19 so far. The final member would be Coach Jim Shank, because he has been involved in the county for such a long time, and knows a great deal.
Each panel member will submit 2 males and 2 females to be voted on into the HOF (as well as a reason). The list of all the panel members will be compiled together, then every panel member will vote for their top 3. After the points are tallied, the top 2 males and top 2 females will be selected. But before they can be elected in, the entire panel will vote "yes" or "no" for those 4 individuals. To get in, the candidate must get 15 "yes". If one gets less then 15, all the candidates are put back in for a second vote (except any that got the necessary 15 "yes").
Now my question, should we have one wildcard each year. This person could be a coach, maybe a newspaper writer, or just member of the community, or another high school athlete.
Moreover, shoudl the HOF be based solely on performances in High school, or overall performances in the track & field as long as they graduated from a carroll county high school and competed on the track & field team.
We have to solve these critical issues, we are running out of time. The first election is only 2 years away....

wild card is a go to make the total number of board members odd. i dont think current student-athletes at the high school level should be permitted simply for the reason that they will be at least slightly biased.
also, there should be a cross country section for the HOF. There could either be simply a "track and field" hall that encompasses all indoor and outdoor runners, or seperate (but would end up smaller) indoor and outdoor halls. that suggestion is not up to me, but the one with the money.

Well, when I said wildcard I meant a wildcard entry into the hall of fame. It could be a coach, or it could be a 3rd male or 3rd female, or a writer, whatever the selection board seems fit.
I don't think we need an odd number for the selection board. Their is never a majority rule vote. First they vote for all the candidates, then the top 2 (boys and girls) must get 15 of the 20 board members to say "yes" to their entry. Right?

yeah i just thought wild card would be a 21st person and an odd nubmer of votes makes sense to me
theres 535 votes in the electoral college. that's an odd number.
how would the wildcard work though? would it be the person with the 3rd highest votes? or would there be a whole nother selection process?

Whole other selection process. The board would discuss it i guess. Like electing Coach Shank, that would be done as a wildcard for all the things he had done. Things like that.
Its not a 1 on 1 vote though. So the odd thing doesn't add anything. There is just as easy a chance to have a tie with 21 board members as their is 20.
