Last year two Carroll Teams were in 3a West, and it is a good thing they aren't this year.
The final regional meet is today - 3a West. Three Frederick County Schools are in this region. Frederick County is closed today, but since 60% of the schools can attend, they are going to have the meet.
It is possible for a county to allow a school to go to a competition when schools are close if they grant special permission (we were in that situation once, and they gave us permission) - but they usually only give permission in extreme circumstances AND when road conditions in that part of the county are good. Frederick County is not going to allow Tuscarora, Urbana or Frederick to attend the meet today. I don't know what conditions are like in Frederick County.
The state, to accomodate this, has said they are going to have the 3 frederick county teams run on Monday before the state meet. The region meet today will be run, but nobody will know for sure that they qualify for states till these 3 teams compete, because they will then be inserted into the results to get top 4. So the only way you know for sure that you qualify for states is if you hit the automatic qualifying standard.
But imagine that, if you run the 3200, you will have to run with a limited field (just 3 schools, who may or may not have other good runners) where you have to beat times run by runners run today (and if you run today, you have to beat runners that are going to run on Monday). Then, if you qualify, you have to race again the next day at states.
Plus, how will the 55 dash and 55 hurdles work. Will they make them run a preliminary section, then whatever time they run, will say if they qualify for finals compared to what heat they would have been in? then run finals. Or will they just run one race, and if they run faster thn the top 4 at the region meet they make it?
At least field events is pretty easy.
I am glad I am not in that region.
See this thread on Frederick County running, they aren't happy for good reason:
