Can you believe its already getting into Championship season?
I think the county will do very well at the Conference championships next week. I'm hoping the county can take 2 of the 4 team titles, maybe even get a 3rd.
Seems the hardest will be someone beating the Middletown girls in the Piedmont.
The best meet that could put up some incredible times and marks I think will come from the Chesapeake girls championship. With Linganore, TJ and North Carroll - those are 3 of the best teams we at Liberty have seen all year - 3 teams that are definitely in the running for a state championship.
Both of the boys conference titles seem to have a couple guys teams that could come out on top.
Any predictions? An individual breakout performance from someone under everybodies radar right now? Will Carroll County holds its own against their foes to the west?
In case you don't know the breakdown of the conference, here is the Chesapeake and Piedmont Conferences teams:
Chesapeake Century Linganore North Carroll Thomas Johnson Tuscarora Urbana Westminster
Piedmont Francis Scott Key Frederick Liberty Middletown South Carroll Walkersville Winters Mill
I'm excited, and the county seems to be dropping their times, and raising their marks at the right time. Nobody seems to mention Carroll County much when it comes to being a strong county in track and field, but I don't believe that. They seem to mention Frederick County though.

Girls Chesapeake should be a dogfight between those top 3. It will likely come down to athlete placement to maximize points. All three have awesome speed up through the 400, NC has the edge in the 16 and 32 with Hursey, Frey from TJ is strong in both but not Hursey strong. Linganore is a little behind there. Hurdles has Brightful (L) and Beal (TJ) to battle it out. NC and Ling have great vaulters, TJ has one to throw in there also for 5 possible over 8'. LJ/TJ depend on placement---Goodman, Yates (L) Franklin-Huff, Jackson (TJ), Hurd are all capable of over 16, Goodman/Brightful (L) and Beal/Keller (TJ) are solid TJ'ers. HJ has Brightful, Keller (TJ), and Stokes (NC) over 5'. Shot and Discus toss up between TJ and Ling for both. Relays are pretty close for all four. NC has 4x8 edge, Ling has 4x4 edge.
I'm sure there are plenty of other matchups I'm missing.
Teams that aren't in the hunt for the title like Tuscarora (sprints, short relays) and Urbana (distance) could have a big impact on the final outcome.

Where is that meet? It is so loaded. I would bet Katie Hursey will run the 800 also - and she can run an 800 very well. Ran 2:24 last year.

I think it will come down to Liberty and Middletown and whoever is the healthist will win, but watch out FSK could steal a lot of points and take 3rd

I believe Frederick girls will be the team to beat in Piedmont.
nsyder. when has Keller jumped over 5'00", and when has TJ pole vaulter gone over 7'00" this season?

as for individuals, i'd say Jared Welsh has a good shot at winning the 3200 and 1600, but Leathers and Cross could give him a run for his money, in the 3200 specifically. At Don Boyer Arthur was only a second off of Welsh, but any of those three could win it
Hruch in HJ....maybe the 800
and there should be some good competition between Jordan Wike and Matt Kepler in PV

counting FSK out of a title does them no justice. they proved themselves at the Don Boyer when they beat liberty and the rest of the field. jared and arthurs 1 2 punch really gets the job done and they have a few awesome relay runners as well as hurdlers and sprinters. no better than 3rd is a laugh and we will see just how good everyone is when the time comes.

Keller has jumped 5' this year a couple of times, most recently at our Intra-city meet. She is a little hit and miss but cleared 5'1 at indoor regionals and has cleared 5'2 before (don't remember where off hand though) Dean vaulted 8' at Lancer relays but she was our only vaulter that cleared anything that day so it didn't show up. Granted she is a little behind because of our PV mat situation but she should hopefully get it back quick. She cleared 8'6" last year at regionals.

FSK has only lost to Middletown this year from the Piedmont, and is undefeated against the county. They only lost to Middletown by 4 points.
The one thing really going for Middletown is team depth. I think it will show up in the Piedmont conference. The Don Boyer Invite had 9 teams, just about every team from the Conference (except Winters Mill and Frederick). From that meet we lose TJ, NC and Urbana - which totaled 224 points at the meet. Middletown's depth could definitely pick up a lot of these points. I think your going to have to score more then 120 to 130 points to win this meet. You might even need to go more then that.
We're hoping with Brad Williams back in the lineup we will be back in the mix. But Middletown's Eyler might be back (21.0 & 49.8), which will strengthen them greatly.
But now its championship season, and everybody will put their best team out there. Teams will change things up, putting forth their best team, and it will be fun to see how it plays out.
For the girls, On paper it looks like a fight between Middletown and Frederick, but Middletown will be tough. While Frederick is better in the field events it seems, Middletown is very strong on the track. They have the best time for every single relay (with room) and when you win 4 relays, its tough for any team to beat you. But certainly stranger things can happen, and nobody is handing them the relay titles.

Question... when was that 21.0 run by Eyler?

Forgive me, I meant 22.1. He did that at regionals last year.

ok, I remember that. How much do you think he'll contribute since he tore his achilles?

He ran a 23 in the meet yesterday, but he just started back (just got cleared). But Regionals I would bet he is definitely going to be a factor.

Piedmont Team "Highlights" I guess from my opinion for Wednesday:
Boys:
Middletown - very deep team that has not lost to any team in the MVAL yet. Coach Boyer has a lot to work with, and claims that next years team will be the best he has ever had. Obviously then he has talent this year, that could get even better then they have shown already. Euler is back and should help the team more with each meet.
FSK - not as deep as Middletown, but certainly has the talent to win. The conference seems to be not as strong in sprints, and FSK has some talent in the sprints, which should really help their chances. Jared Welsh and Arthur Leathers is a great duo for the distance races, and Josh Cole gives them a threat in the throws.
Liberty - Won the conference meet indoors, so definitely have the potential to win the meet. Strength is definitetly jumps and distance, but are scoring points in just about everything.
Frederick - could be the surprise team. Not nearly as deep as any of the above 3 teams, but have some talent. With Quinten Ferguson, Jordan Dyson, Anthony Walker, Thomas Threadgill and Gerald Price, they should be very strong in hurdles, jumps and sprints.
Winters Mill - They might not have the depth to challenge for the team title, but they certainly have some talented individuals. Tom Martz and Aaron Kennedy give them threats in the sprints, Dan Adamciak will score points in any distance race, Jordan Wike obviously is the best vaulter with his season best of 14'0 - and will likely be scoring big points in hurdles as well, and Zach Means will be a top 3 potential in each of the throws.
South Carroll - The team is still young, but is improving quickly. Ryan Raper should be a factor in multiple events, and Kyle McDonald will be taking his chances at winning the Discus. Freshman Jake Zamostny will be fun to watch in the distance races. He looked very impressive in winning his heat of the 1600 at the Don Boyer Invite and could be a huge factor for SC over the next 4 years.
Walkersville - A team still developing. They have been improving all year, and could be the spoiler. I know the least about them, but do know they have individuals that have been working their way up into contention as the season has gone on.
Girls:
Middletown - Haven't lost to anybody in the conference this year, and should be the team to beat. It could very well come down to them and Frederick for the title but it is hard to beat a team if they win all four relays - as they have the #1 time from the conference so far this year in each of the relays. They have top scorers in just about any track event.
Frederick - A more balanced team then Middletown, they could rack up a lot of points in the field events. They also have the top hurdler in the conference in Kiondra Fischer, the top middle distance runner in Shamika Patton, top high jumper in Krysten Marchigiani, and Inna Potekhina has proved to be a threat in the distance races. Kiondra Fischer and Shamika Patton also give them the top long/triple jumpers in the conference so far this year.
Winters Mill - On paper is the best talent for the county going in. Bethany Perna is a threat in any event she competes in, freshman Nikki Koons makes her debut in the championships and should have opportunity to medal in a couple events, Chynna Bulter should give them a big threat in the sprints, and Winters Mill has a couple very talented distance runners. Winters Mill is definitely the top in the conference in throws - with some of the best and having depth at those events.
Liberty - Coming off their performance of the year with a 3rd place finish at the Zimmerman Invite, the momentum could carry over into the championship season. Like the boys, strength seems to be jumps and distance, but Melissa Stansbury gives them a big points in the throws. Liberty Hurdlers have been scoring lots of points all year, and they could help Liberty surprise their frederick county foes.
SC - Lindsay Warfield is a big threat in all of the distance races, and could help the team move up the team standings. Hanna Noel, the indoor regional champion in High Jump, could add some in the jumps. SC continues to improve and certainly should be in the mix with Liberty and Winters Mill.
Walkersville - Again, I haven't seen this team pieced together completely yet. Rachel Shapelow, if healthy, could be the top sprinter in the conference. Laura Klipp and Laura Hobbs should pick up some points for them too.
FSK - I expect them to be a very good team during the championships. With the top sprinter so far in the conferece in Jen Byrd, Mandi Jenkins in the 400 and 800, and the combo of Maggie Leathers and Mairin Leahy in distance, they have a great group on the track to score a lot of points.
