Boys races were much larger then the girls races. 3 boys races with over 200 runners in it (295 in the Junior Boys) and one with 195 (Sophomore Boys), but the largest girls race only had 124 in it (Sophomore Girls). Running Maryland said it looked a lot different then in past years, and one coach even thinks Nike will replace it soon. It is too bad, cause this has been a great race in the past.

I seriously doubt Nike will replace it - they weren't even there this year - they dropped their sponsorship. That is part of the reason Coach Mickey saw reduced vendors in the park - no Nike trailer. Two other Maryland coaches that I spoke with thought it was still well attended and well organized. In fact, the race number and shirt pickup was run much smoother than in the past, and the awards were handed out much quicker than in previous years.
The race sizes were tilted a little more toward the elite - and the freshman races were smaller, but otherwise, it was a good crowd and a nice field of runners. The food vendor is a street vendor - and he did not make it into the park for some reason - but he did show up on the street next to the park - so the race really was not much different from previous years.

What they are talking about is Nike Team Nationals. This was the first year of that, and 4 teams from Maryland went. Coach Mickey was actually the one that said he thought it would take over. They are going to probably going to keep making changes to it to keep getting more and more teams involved, but there was a high involvement at that meet for a first year (Maryland Teams that went - Quince Orchard Boys, Calvert Hall Boys, Eleanor Roosevelt Girls, Winston Churchill Girls). Also, there was 25% less runners at Foot Locker this year then last year. That is what they were talking about with that. That number probably is partly contributed to Nike Team Nationals (you figure that those 4 teams that went typically send runners to Foot Locker, in fact I think Eleanor Roosevelt had 2 girls that won class races last year). I doubt Nike would replace Foot Locker, since Foot Locker is better for the individual, but it definitely had an effect on Foot Locker. Also, Nike was never a sponsor of this race. This is the chat where people are talking about Foot Locker for anybody that was interested: s2.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php?forumid=140803&threadid=1736983s2.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php?forumid=140803&threadid=1737432

Not sure why, but there was a huge dropoff in the Number of Maryland runners that went to Foot Locker this year - nearly half as many!
2006 there was 269 runners from Maryland at the Foot Locker Championships 2007 there was 137 runners from Maryland at the Foot Locker Championships
ERR took over 20% of the runners that went from Maryland - that is 1 in 5 Maryland runners that went to Foot Locker came with ERR!!

i think that Nike will return in sponsorship because of the drop in people that will probably continue for the next like four years. i don't know though. i liked it this year because of hoe small it was. i had a fear of like being over whelmed at the race and like missing it. i think it will be a smaller race next year because of Nike not sponsoring it.

Again - Nike never was a sponsor. It has always been sponsored by Foot Locker. Nike sponsors the XC Team Championships that were held in Alabama this year that Quince Orchard, Calvert Hall, Eleanor Roosevelt and Winston Churchill teams went to.

Nike was a co-sponsor - they provided equipment, advertsiing and some otehr servoces in return for the ad rights, and merchandising. Hence the Nike swoosh on all the old Footlocker Race apparel. Footlocker was and is the primary sponsor
