The Eldersburg Rogue Runners are once again going to take proceeds from the 1 Mile Cross Walk that is part of their Labor Day Rogue Race to help a young individual in the community. Last year we did this for Andrew Cross, and what a great success story he has been. Andrew is once again running every day with his teammates and is excited about his junior year starting at the end of the month. This year we want to help a young lady at Century HS named Lindsey Wilson that was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
A little more about Lindsey: She is 16 years old, has been active in Freedom Rec Sports and now attends Century High School. On March 2nd, 2007 she was diagnosed with metastatic Ewings Sarcoma. Metastatic means it has spread to other locations. She found a lump on the back of her upper left arm back in late February. She wound up in three different doctor's offices that same week, and ended that week on March 2nd with a biopsy surgery at Carroll Hospital in Westminster. Once the diagnosis was made, they had a CAT scan done on March 8th which showed that it had spread to both of her lungs. She got in at Johns Hopkins and the chemotherapy began on March 15th. She has responded as good as the doctors could expect to their chemo regimen and the tumor found in her arm shrunk and died off enough to make the surgery to remove it successful. She is doing physical therapy right now to get the total use and range of motion back to her left arm. She is scheduled to undergo chemo until about October. Money raised from the 1 Mile Cross Walk would help with her medical expenses.
We hope that this years event can be as successful as last year’s as we try to help the Wilson family as they go through this difficult time. We hope you will join the Eldersburg Rogue Runners on September 3rd at Liberty High School.
