Saturday Bagel Runs - Survey!

ERR started the weekly bagel run back up again. It is every Saturday at 8:30 am. right now we meet every Saturday at Oklahoma Road Middle School.

We would like to get some opinions from you all about our Bagel Run. Take this quick survey online, and tell us what you think. Even if you have never come to a bagel run before, we want your opinions, so we can make these runs worthwhile.

We thank you for taking time to respond to our on-line survey. Below are the results and some observations to the survey:

Do you plan on participating in the Bagel Runs? 50% responded that they were going to participate. The other 50% responded “Maybe.” Of the people who responded that they would participate – all have except for two. None of the Maybe’s have participated yet.

Where would you like to run? 1/5 of the respondents want us to rotate among various locations, 25% want us to keep it simple, and 25% want us to Change it up from time to time. The rest did not care.

What time do you prefer to run? 2/5ths of the respondents want it to stay at 8:30, 1 person wants us to move it up to 8AM; the rest are in favor of moving it to 9AM. Interestingly, only 1 of the respondents who wants us to move it to 9AM has participated.

Distance –wise, the largest group is running 4 – 5 Miles (2/5ths). We did have at least one respondent in every category: 3 miles, 5 – 7 miles, 7 – 10 miles, and over 10 miles. Most consider themselves Intermediate runners – 20% though consider themselves advanced, and many of you consider yourselves Beginners.

Pace is just as diverse – which again is a good thing. We have people running at various paces.

Purpose for running – again, we had 13% are simply trying to get their hear rate up, 33% are working on a Half Marathon, and 20% are working on Marathons. The rest are working on 10Ks and 5Ks.

We have noted those of you who are interested in participating in a relay. Our next Adult Relay teams will be running in the Frederick Marathon – so look for information on that.

Observations:

Location: Given the responses, we should probably give greater thought to a simple rotation to increase the variety of the runs offered on Saturday Morning. We will discuss this as a group at the Bagel runs, and look for an announcement. Having said this, we will keep the Bagel Runs at Oklahoma Road Middle School for the time being – it is probably best in that we are still trying to make this a Habit – and keeping it simple in the early stages should help. We will look at rotating the runs every other week between two locations. We will also look at having one run each quarter that is a Special Run – maybe run with another club, or go to a unique location for a run: The DC Mall, The NCR Trail, The B&O Trail, etc.

Time: we probably need to reach out to the people who are coming and ask if it would hinder their participation if we moved it to 9AM. It appears that we may pick up a few participants if we moved it back – at the same time, we do not want to loose any of the current 8:30 “Regular” participants with the “hope” of attracting additional runners.
