Westminster resident Diana Pool led four members of the Central Maryland Athletic Club to a first place finish among open female running clubs on Sunday, April 2nd in the 34th running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-mile race in Washington, D.C.
Pool, 25, finished 15th out of 5,393 women in a time of 59 minutes, 39 seconds. She averaged 5:58 per mile and was the only Maryland female under 60 minutes. This year’s time was faster than Pool’s effort last year by two minutes, 50 seconds.
South Carroll High School and McDaniel College graduate Jill Krebs, formerly of New Windsor who now resides in Richmond, Va., was second on the team and 19th in the field. She averaged 6:03 per mile for an overall time of 60:21.
Coming in third for CMAC was Pamela Maldeis, 23, of Towson and formerly of Eldersburg, was 21st overall, finishing in 61:03. Finishg fourth, and 35th overall, was Kim Jaick, 26, of Reading, Pa. Jaick finished in 64:28.
The top three runners from each team counted for team scoring. CMAC had a cumulative time of three hours, one minute and three seconds. Runner-up Metro Run & Walk TC – Female had a combined time of 3:23:07.
CMAC, an affiliate of the Westminster Road Runners and Eldersburg Rogue Runners clubs, is coached by Doug Renner and Troy Smith. The club was formed in 2002 and focuses on providing support and competitive opportunities for post-collegiate runners.
