Running for the Central Maryland Athletic Club, former Eldersburg resident Pamela Maldeis placed fourth overall and was the first woman to cross the finish line April 30 in the Frederick Half-Marathon.
Nearly 800 runners toed the starting line, including 456 women. Maldeis, 23, posted a time of 1 hour, 22 minutes and 17 seconds over the 13.1-mile course. She averaged 6:17 per mile and was a mere 19 seconds from third place. Maldeis went through the 6.4-mile marker in 41:25, about 6:28 per mile. She then had a lead of less than three minutes on her closest female competitor and finished more than five minutes ahead of the second woman.
