Javelin is AWESOME, I got to throw one the other day and it was great, I ripped one for like 110 feet, it was great to do something new

i've said it so many times (not on here) but we need to petition to get javelin back into MD track. It's been proven that pole vault is more dangerous than javelin, so if we present that case, one of three things will happen:

1. javelin is reinstated
2. pole vault is taken out of MD track
3. they completely ignore us

I think thats a risk we should take

I actually would not be in favor of having Javelin. One of the biggest problems is facilities. Some schools would not have the area to practice or contest Javelin, and it wouldn't be fair. It's tough enough with Pole Vault. So many schools don't compete in Pole vault right now, partly because after the rule changes to the pits, teams could not afford to replace them and get certified coaches. The result is less competition in the event.

Your talking about cost here. To have Javelin, you have to have poles, and probably certified coaches (we don't get many coaches to begin with) and an area to compete and practice. Safety I don't think is as big of an issue. This would not benefit the entire track community, it would merely only benefit a few teams or individuals.

ummm Karl you of all people should know that Pole Vault isn't dangerous

it's not that dangerous if you know what you're doing, but there were studies done where it showed that pole vault was more dangerous. and remember the time in indoor when i came straight down onto the runway?

Actually, Pole Vault is very dangerous. This is why there has been so many things changed about the event in the last 5 years. When I was in college, I remember the reports of several americans killed in pole vault competitions. It is not something you do if your not going to be serious about it. Thats why we limit who can do it, we won't let just anybody do pole vault at a meet.

however most of the people that die are mainly do to their own carelessness not as much the event, for instance the guy from Penn State that died a few years ago was not because of actual jump, it was because he thought he had to get onto a 16' pole when in fact he shouldn't have been and i know for a fact that several high profile coaches told him not to, he took off where he should have for 15' and that was it, also accidents like a kid who after winning a state championship decided to do a backflip on the mat with his spikes on, the spikes caught the mat and he flipped, then he died, those are sometimes labelled as PV deaths as well, so what i guess i'm trying to say is that when its taught right and people don't do stupid stuff (and at Liberty it is taught right) its really not that dangerous


and for you south carroll kids I know for a fact that Chris Wagner knows what he is doing so you guys do as well

I think i'm just saying this because it angers me when people talk down PV when running can be dangerous too, and you never hear that many people say that running should be banned (although it wouldn't I know coach just saying that for a point) and by the way I'm not refering to anyone here just the people across the country who don't know about the event and immediatly thinks anyone who does it has a 99% chance of dying
