CUMBERLAND – Runners have a chance to compete in a new local race this year with the Spring is Here! 10K (6.2-mile) competition on Sunday, April 6. The race starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Mason and Naves Cross roads east of Cumberland. Registration is only on race day from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Participants should park in the commuter parking lot nearest Hillcrest Memorial Park. The race is a joint effort of many area running clubs. Its primary sponsor is the Baltimore-Washington Athletic Club, an affiliate of the Westminster Road Runners Club in Carroll County. Logistics and volunteer efforts are being aided by the Chambersburg (Pa.) Road Runners, the Cumberland Valley Athletic Club and individuals from the Queen City Striders. low-key affair has only a $2 entry fee for WRRC/BWAC members and $3 for non-members. The course will be well-marked and splits will be called out at each mile. Water will be available along the course. The out-and-back course is run on paved, rolling country roads. Overall male and female winners will be recognized. A number of prizes will be awarded through a random drawing. A post-race potluck meal will be enjoyed by those who choose to participate and contribute to the effort. Meats are provided free of charge; please bring non-alcoholic beverages, a side dish or modest snack to share.
