Is nobody interested in counties on this site anymore? It could be a decent year. Or not.

Well, it certainly seems like on paper that the boys meet would be closer then the girls. NC girls could have the number one seed in 11 of the 12 track events, then add in their PV points, and Alexis has the #1 LJ mark..
On the boys, a lot of the top athletes have missing from meets lately, and who competes and at what level could be a big factor. I can think of at least 6 guys that have been missing of late that were possibilities of winning events at counties. I think a lot of teams may have had the ability to pull out a win, but who will be healthy enough at counties to make a run could be another story.

I agree that it is going to be a question of health, so I don't think that anyone can really start making solid predictions until the heat sheets come out.

well im going to say my opinion right now. i think north carroll looks extremely solid right now. becker is a beast in the 2 and 4 and their relays are strong. burden in the throws is instant points and they have been working on a steadily improving distance program all season. mathers didnt seem to score at mval's but i didnt really check to see if his name was even on the list of events.
only other TEAM that i think can touch them is century. century's mid distance program and sprints are phenomenal. im not totally sure about their throwing but they do have a solid jumper or two.
i can see either westminster, fsk, or liberty being after these two schools. westminster being lead by john lopez and various other scorers. liberty getting at least 20 to 30 points from hruch. fsk getting a large ammount from their distance but lacking somewhat in their other areas.
south carroll is my next bet after these other teams. some strong distance from zamostny and naper. wagner in PV
WM i think will end up with the short end of the straw. fairly week in almost every area except throwing i think?
*this is just my thoughts on the guys, feel free to butt in girls!*

I would like it if our sprints were phenomenal, but the shortest event we scored in at MVALs was the 800. It looks like Theron could be back, however.

While I agree NC boys look strong, and anybody could pull away given a good day, I did go and score the county based on the two mval meets, and boy was it close. With two events to go, four teams were seperated by 3 points, and a fifth team was not far behind.
I do think Mathers is a good runner, but it will be awful hard to score in the distance events. Given the times this year in the 1600, it seems it could take a sub 4:40 time just to score (didn't 4:39 win it last year?). The 800 will take sub 2:06? The 3200 will take sub 10:30. As of right now, Mathers hasn't run those times. Right now, there will be some good runners that don't make the fast heat of the 1600 (I have it being 4:54 is the last time that will make the fast heat - as this year they are requiring actual times from the 2007 season).
I have been watching the 1600 especially because I having been hoping Andrew Cross would make the fast heat. At MVALs he improved his time by 19 seconds, and should be just enough to make the fast heat (he won the slow heat by 5 seconds).
While I think the county is pretty balanced this year, I don't think it will necessarily mean a close meet. I think the injuries and such will take it's toll, and somebody will benefit more then others. But think of this, the last two track season (outdoor 2006 and indoor 2007) we have had 4 different teams win a county title (FSK Outdoor 2006, Westminster Outdoor 2006, Liberty Indoor 2007, Century Indoor 2007) and yet we talk about a fifth team is the team to beat this year. Would it be possible to have a third straight tie for a county title.

the 1600 should be good, there have been a significant number of runners going sub 5min, has there been this many in recent years? i may br wrong-can't wait.

Like I said there is 13 guys that have run sub 4:55 in the county this year. 9 athletes have run sub 4:45 so far.

Yeah the distance events have been getting real real good. I remember 2 years ago Dawson ran a 4:55 (or so?) 1600 and got 2nd. My 4:45 last year was only good for 6th I believe. It's good to see the distance events getting so strong.
For predictions I'll go with NC girls...and Century boys pulling it out with the 4 x 400. That boy's 4 x 400 at the end will be an intense race.
And I really wish I could come back to see the meet...(gotta love evening classes...)

Me personally, I think the meet will come down to who can score the most points in the field events. For most of the year NC has scored the most points in the sprints, Century the most in middle distance, FSK the most in long distance, and Westminster the most in hurdles, it really evens out these teams a lot. Most of these teams have somebody that can score in the other areas, just don't have as strong a core as the team that is scoring the most. Obviously if someone steals more points in one of those areas then expected it could swing the points, but I think whoever can grab the most out of field will control the meet. Everybody has areas in field that they are strong and weak at. Nobody clearly has more strength then any other program, and nobody is well behind everybody.
If Century were to win the meet, it wouldn't be because they won the 4x4 - I do think winning the 4x4 is needed because the 4x4 would fall into their strength of middle distance. Them winning will either come from the points they score in the field events AND being able to big up points in the track events not at their strength (And a healthy Theron would surely pick up some points)

I was saying that I think the meet will be close enough right before that race that the 4 x 4 will be a really really intense race. It has the past 2 years. But yeah if Century can get some points from different places like Bosse in the 1600 or Zynda in the 3200 then that will make a big difference for them. NC will be tough to beat because their field events are so strong. I would say that NC boys have a big advantage in the field events with Burden and Adami.

Ran great in that mile, and then I was impressed at how well he did in the 3200. I didn't think he would run it. I think he kind of expected himself to fall way back in the 2nd mile, but he finished 8th. He is definitely getting stronger.
I was impressed with CJ almost getting that mile title. Just need to lean - he got you on the lean!!
