State Qualifying Marks

They are doing something new with the state automatic qualification standards this year. There is a different standard for those that compete at the Baltimore Armory as opposed to those that compete at Prince George's Sportscomplex or Hagerstown Community College. This is especially a big deal to North Carroll since they will have to compete their regional championship at the Baltimore Armory, a much slower track.

Here are the standards (I am only putting those that pertain to our county) Note: The mark/time must be accomplished at the regional championship.

Do you mean "could" rather then "would"? Remember, we only get 2 entries per event in regionals now. And you have to hit the mark/time at regionals to get the automatic qualification. Last year the 3200 in 1a2a West had 12 qualifiers based on time.

luckily for my senior year we are at PG county and im hoping i can hit those automatic marks. anythings possible

I sometimes think it's unfair that 4a compete with 3a for state qualifying. The 4a class has an advantage often i don't get why that happens?

Well Westminster will be 4a next year so... The advantage is in numbers. The more people you have to choose from, the better you will likely be. A school of 2000 kids is more likely to have a good track or xc team then a school of 1000 kids.

Yea i know but what i am saying is that we will be competing against 4a schools so they may have faster times. Last year we did the same and only two of our athletes wen't to states for indoor o well i'm still looking forward for PG Sportsplex haha.

I think we'll see a lot of qualifiers this year. 1a2a especially.

I would be sure more will qualify in the 3200, but I won't bet on it in the 1600 or 800. Those races are just about being top 4. The 800 is about who has something left and at that point it will set up for who is strongest last lap. The 1600 is early in the meet, but still right after that 4x800, and some will be just eyeing to qualfiying believing they can beat everybody for top 4.
