After each meet, I will post one boy and one girl as runner of the Meet Most Valuable Runner from Carroll County. I will also name a couple honorable Mention. When multiple teams from the county attend a meet, with multiple ranked runners in the race, I will name a "Meet Most Valuable Runner" for Carroll County and post it on the message board and the Carroll County Running Home Page. How will the Meet Most Valuable Runner be decided? The boy and girl that had the biggest point increase in the rankings will be that meets runner of the meet. This isn't a perfect system (cause some athletes are still establishing themselves) but since the rankings are starting to stabalize already (especially on the guys side) it will show you who had the biggest improvement based on where they typically have finished. But note, the only way you can be named Meet Most Valuable Runner is if you are previously ranked. We too often always name the runner that wins the race as the one that had the best race, but we all know XC is a team sport, and it takes 5 to get a team score. I will give it a try, and see if people like it (if I get a lot of complaints about it, I might stop it). The same athlete can not be name Meet Most Valuable Athlete 2 meets in a row (that they run in). The rankings are objective. To see how they are computed go to: www.carrollcountyrunning.com/Rankings/XCRankingsFormula.htm

Bull Run Meet Most Valuable Runners
Boys - Pat Mead from Century: Pat put up the 4th fastest time for Carroll County at the Bull Run (only 23 seconds from the top time) and increased his rankings points by 12.
Girls - Maura Linde from Century: We went away from our typical reason for naming someone Most Valuable Runner, but I think you can understand with this one. Maura ran the fastest female time of the day at Bull Run in winning the Elite race with a great kick.

CARROLL COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS MEET MOST VALUABLE RUNNERS
Boys - Zach Hopkins of Winters Mill: On one of the toughest courses run during the season, on very sloppy conditions, there was very few personal best times run (of converted 5Ks), and the few that did saw improvements of only a second or two. Zach ran a 35 second PR, and not only not only led the team for the first time this year, but also finished 2nd overall.
Girls - Hannah Sisler of Westminster: Only two individuals in both the boys and girls race earned more then 17 points in the rankings. Hannah was one of them, maxing out in earning 30 points! Her efforts also moved her up 2 spots in the rankings and closing in on 4 more individuals.
Honorable Mention
Samantha Bingaman of South Carroll: Even though she is only a freshman, Samantha may have been one of the most consistent runners all year. Even as the #2 runner on her team, she finished in the top 3 in half of the meets she competed in this year and her worst finish has been an 8th place finish. Her 3rd place finish at Counties was not a surprise.
Samantha McElroy of Liberty: Samantha gained 10 points in the rankings with her 4th place finish. She also ran her 6th sub 21 time of the year (5K converted times), the second most in the county (only Maura has done it more).
Alex Cooke of Westminster: Alex was one of the few runners to gain over 10 points in the rankings, earning 17 points. He also beat 5 runners that were ranked ahead of him in the rankings with possibly his best race of the season.
Zach Boyer of Liberty: Typically unranked runners get added to the rankings when they are able to beat 2 or 3 ranked runners. This year the most that a unranked runner has been able to beat has been 4 or 5. Zach beat 10 ranked runners, by far the biggest to date in our rankings mid-season.
