Any thoughts for top teams boys and girls next year...
Here's my boys picks: 1)SC 2)Liberty 3)FSK 4)Century 5)Westminster 6)NC 7)WM
Of course, these picks are just based on seniors leaving and does not take into account other factors...feel free to contradict, that's the goal, to get a well rounded debate

You said boys and girls, but then only listed boys??
Liberty will have both Liberatore and Cross back, should make us competitive with Souders, Dougherty and Rodriguez from our varsity squad this year.

Westminster at 5th? you have to be kidding me but well it's "your" prediction. I know that we are loosing 3 guys again but out top five will be seniors and 6'th and 7th juniors-this sophmores have improved so much abd we will all get better i'm think 1'st or 2nd....

The reason I didn't put the girls is because I honestly don't know too much about the girl team besides the fact that century and SC were good this year, so thats why I didn't put anything. I knew others would have info on the girls team and they could post that. Also, I agree very much that Liberty could be the number one team but SC has a good group of young guys too so we'll just have to see...

Hey fskfanatik, I'm really surprised you didn't put FSK higher. Even though I'm a Liberty fan, I think Fsk will be tough to beat with Holtz, Leathers and White returning. Here are my predictions for boys:
1.FSK 2.Liberty-if we really do get Lib and Cross back, maybe #1! 3.SC 4.NC- Pagels and Mathers are not to be dismissed! 5.Century, maybe Westminster 6.Westminster, maybe Century 7.Winters Mill

Anything is possible, it's all about who puts in the mileage. SC and FSK did this year, and they rose to the top.
I am not saying FSK wont' be good next year, but they have some major holes to fill. But it can be done. Just right now they have a big gap from graduation from 3 to 4 for next year. But the top 4 teams in the county all graduated 3 guys. Interesting note, Westminster graduates their #1, SC graduates their #1, FSK graduates their #1. Who will be the new leaders. I don't know who you call our #1 - this year Pat Dougherty led the most races, Eric Liberatore ran the fastest times, Tim Souders had the best 2nd half for us, and Nick Hruch led us in two of the championships (and Andrew Cross will hold our 3200 record one day). Of those 4, only Nick is gone, and then add in Cross, who knows who will be our #1 next year. I think the guy that puts in the mileage over the next year will be it - and if all four make it a goal to be #1 for us, then we will be a good team.

Next year should be real interesting i think. many runners in the top graduate but there seems to be an eager group of buys to step up.
westminster has a strong group of guys that were constantly flip-floping from 4th through 10th place. if they can put in the effort this summer, hopefully but to most not likely, they should definately be in the mix led by Mike Wilkins and andrew solomon.
liberty should be a strong force from the start if all goes well for their team. liberatore, knock on wood, and cross on top of their strong back almost reminds me of our westminster team at the end of my junior season. they should definitally contend for county, region, state titles.
fsk looks to loose some real strength and their relatively shallow team might not have what it takes to continue team success. graduating 3 or their top 6 with a large gap after their 6th man this year, they'll need to either recruit some fresh blood or crack the whip on the veterans.
north carroll has been a very up and coming team this year and since their top group is young, should really be in the mix. pagels and mathers were right on my tail in the championship time of year and they have plenty of time to keep improving.
south carroll was extremely strong this year but im kind of in the dark as to the ages of their top runners. jake and doug are sophmores, cj was a senior, as for nenninger and phillips, im not totaly sure but i think at least one of them is a senior. didnt watch the JV county race but i think they had some guys up there that could convert to varsity nicely.
century seems to have improved slightly since last season and young runners could improve their county rank. zynda and wachter leading a relatively young team next year could surprise some people if they have the heart in it.
winters mill i think is the team with the most improvement needed. led by chris frock this year, they are going to have to build their strength for next year. summer running will be a key factor for them to place higher. great parental support and running programs could be what they need to break through.
as for actual ranks i dont really know what to say at this moment. many "what if's" before i can make my say. will cross be back in full strength? will sc have some guys step it up? will fsk find some newbies to fill the gaps? will westminsters guys finally get their act together?
good luck everyone its been a great 4 years. show the state that carroll is not to be overlooked next year!

Sc's Phillips and Nenninger are both seniors this year.
As for Sc's girls... they are not graduating anyone this year so they should come back pretty strong.

I would say the best runners are determined by who shows up to the Championship meets. States is the biggest meet that counts, so how can you say FSK looses their number one when Authur beat Jared at states. No disrespect to Jared, but I have to say that Authur is FSK's number 1 because he earned it.

Jared Welsh is the County, Conference and REgional Champion. And their is little doubt that both the Baltimore Sun and CArroll County Times will name him athlete of the year. Jared was their #1 this year. He just didn't have his best performance at states, he is no doubt their #1 though.

Well I can understand where you are coming from, but if my coach told me the guy I just beat at the biggest meet that we ran all year deserves to be rated ahead of me I would be a little mad. Especially, if his reasoning was what you listed above. Authur wasn't even that far behind Jared most races. It would be like Maurice Green or someone winning every meet they ran in accross the world the whole year leading up to the Olympics and then running a bad race during the Olympics. He can't say that he is still #1 just because he had a bad race. The winner earned the title of #1.

Either way FSK will have a solid number 1 next year... problem solved...

Arthur ran great with Jared right by his side but he is going to graduate. To me i think next year he really won't have some one to replace jared and looking at the regional race arthur was slower because jared wen't all out and left by himself he will still be great but a tid bit slower?

i seriously doubt if arthur will get any slower. he's improved each year with or without other people pushing him. i believe ill call it now and predict state champ next year in that kid.

I'm looking forward to seeing how well the girls do next year since theres the possibility that we'll have the entire team back. But I can safely say it wont be the same without you cody and stephen, and of course cheeno man..
